Projects...
Some of the more interesting assignments that we've worked on:
- Automating Business Processes: We have been working with a manufacturer in Keene to bring some definition, predictability and accountability to their front office business processes. Using a combination of backend (Java, web services, Business Process Execution Language [BPEL], workflow and RDMS) and frontend (HTML, servlets and JavaServer Faces) technologies, we are building an application that enables sales, engineering and management staff to monitor and streamline their RFQ-to-Order operations.
- Designing an Order Entry System: Working with a different manufacturer than the one described above, Johnny co-lead a formal analysis and design process for a new Order Entry system. The process, called Contextual Design, was extensive, eliciting input from all sectors of the organization and leading, ultimately, to the company's decision to invest in a leading ERP system.
- Integrating a Hospital's Software Systems: In addition to coordinating the installation of several new ancillary applications (Pharmacy, Transcription, Pathology, Nursing) we installed an Integration Engine that tied these systems to each other and back to the core Hospital Information System.
- Upgrading an ERP System: Working alongside the customer's IT Directory, Johnny helped convert dozens of custom applications from Cobol to PL/SQL and Crystal Reports in preparation for the upgrade of the company's ERP system.
- Java Education for a Development Team: We led the effort to bring an in-house programming staff up-to-speed in Object Oriented concepts and Java programming skills, culminating in the convertion of a knowledge-based expert system to Java.
- Backend Website Programming: We added dynamic page construction and database-backed search features to the website of a local non-profit, H.E.Y.
- Project Management: We provided overall project coordination for the migration of a hospital's Lab Information System (LIS) from an obsolete product to a new one from a different vendor. The new LIS interfaces with several other systems, both internal and external to the hospital's network.
